The other day  I saw an advertisement for one of those ‘getting healthy’ product parties they do. You were asked to…

“Bring an old photo of the way you once looked and will look again!”

And I was like… what?

I don’t want to go back to being who I was.

Nor do I want to go back to looking how I once looked.

I want to go forward + continue moving into who I’m becoming.

It’s not that I am unhappy or angry about my past or that there aren’t moments in my life that have been truly magnificent.

It’s that my past is my past. It’s over + behind me.

My past is part of my story.

The story that makes me… ME… and all of it – good, bad, or somewhere in between – adds to the richness that I am.

I don’t spend my time yearning or pining for days gone by.

I keep moving on to what is next.

Holding on

You see, when you hold on to the past you become attached to an idea of how you think things should be.

The same thing happens if you dream too deeply of your future -what your life ‘could’ be.

Both scenarios create an imaginary vision of how you ‘think’ things should be in our life, or your relationships, or your… whatever-it-is.

And then something goes missing…

You lose the ability to really live, because you’re lost in a dream or a memory.

Reality seems dull compared to the bright-shiny-fairy-tale-illusion you’ve created in your head.

And you stop seeing the beauty that today has to offer.

This moment – right now – is where you need to be if you want to experience the kind of joy that’s deep + lasting.

There is so-much-good to be found if you are present to see it.

There may be difficult days when you will have to look hard, still the beauty and love will be there.

You can’t go back

You can only go forward.

Look ahead to the grand adventure that is yet to come.

Try new things. Discover new loves and explore new possibilities. Heck- maybe even learn to play the cello!

Move toward your future with joy, excitement, and dare I say a bit of giddiness and glee.

Your life can be anything you want it to be.

Instead of trying to go back… create a life in the now that is oh-so-beautiful.

What is the most beautiful

thing in your day?

Share it in the comments cuz, I wanna know!
